TODAY’S MESSAGE
The Prayer of Surrender
Matthew 6:9-13
“May your kingdom come,
may your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.”
Matthew 6:10, GN
The Prayer of Surrender Means …
1.
I accept God’s plan
“I have learned to be satisfied with the things I have and with everything that happens. I know how to live when I am poor, and I know how to live when I have plenty. I have learned the secret of being happy at any time in everything that happens …. I can do all things through Christ, because He gives me strength.” (Philippians 4:11-13, NCV)
Why No Answer When We
Ask Why
1) God doesn’t owe us an explanation
2) We probably wouldn’t understand God’s explanation
3) Explanations never comfort us
Three Attitudes on the
Pathway to Peace
1) Accepting
2) Trusting
3) Surrendering
2.
I surrender to God’s control
“Surrender yourself to the Lord, and wait patiently for him.” (Psalm 37:7a, GW)
“If a person’s thinking is controlled by his sinful self, then there is death. But if his thinking is controlled by the Spirit, then there is life and peace.” (Romans 8:6, ICB)
“Stop quarreling with God! If you agree with him, you will have peace at last, and things will go well for you.” (Job 22:21, NLT)
3.
I trust in God’s care
“You, Lord, give true peace to those who depend on you because they trust you.” (Isaiah 26:3, NCV)
Four Reasons We Have
Problems:
1) We live in a fallen world
2) We have an enemy
3) We make poor decisions
4) God allows them to happen
“God will give you all you need from day to day if you live for him and make the kingdom of God your primary concern.” (Matthew 6:33, NLT)
“Give yourselves to God … surrender your whole being to him to be used for righteous purposes.” (Romans 6:13, TEV)
